My Husband & I are due to return to MS soon from England and want to build/have built our own home but want to incorprate energy saving aspects to our home. Where can we get advise about what is avaiable and recommended for our needs

Comment on April 24th, 2008.

Hi Julie, I would recommend filling out the form above with solar project details, or at least what you have at this point, and getting a pro to all and answer your questions. Solar expertise is pretty localized by state, so a salesperson in MS is going to be best equipped to answer your questions. In the meantime, check out the rebates and subsidies available in MS at http://www.solarpowerrocks.com/mississippi/

Hey Dan, I was just about to ask the same question as Andrew. Could hook me up with the same Chicago based installer for more information as well?

Comment on May 27th, 2008.

Sat and William (and anyone else looking for training info),

The info from the Chicago area installer was pretty simple. Get NABCEP certification, train with experienced installation crews, and apply for jobs. However, please also check out The Interstate Renewable Energy Council for further training and workforce development initiatives. They are an excellent resource.

Hi,
I’m a GA non restricted electrical contractor and am looking at getting into selling and installing residential/commercial photovoltaic systems. I have been doing a good bit of online research and would like to know which one of the many PV installation training programs you readers would recommend. Here are some of the providers I located:

1)North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners
2)North Carolina Solar Center
3)Florida Solar Energy Center
4)Solar Energy International
5)Solairgen, Inc.
6)Sharp Solar Systems

Prices were generally $500 – $ 1,000 and class-time w/hands-on varied from 2 – 10 days. If anybody knows of another one, or can vouch for one of these, your help would be greatly appreciated.

I had solar power growing up in the 70’s and therefore, know that it is a viable option here. We want to teach our children that solar power is clean and plentiful. The best way is to have it fuel our personal energy needs.

I’ve been researching Solor power here in Tn. and don;t see how it is economically feasable to spend $8+kwh to save $.095kwh. I don’t see any support on the state level. As Mr. Obama claims to create new jobs in energy, I don’t see that to be the case in TN.

Comment on March 28th, 2009.

The feed-in tariff is the way to spur demand. It worked wonders in Germany because it was 3-4X the normal rate. If the economy turns up a bit and oil prices go up slightly (combined with the 30% tax credit) demand for solar could finally take off.

We are solar designers and work with a corporation out of anoka. We do solar systems in San Diego, and southern california. We are interested in making a presentation to our company, but are not famaliar with Minnesota incentives. We have a unique system, and would discourage any other. We are interested in finding someone in Minnesota to work with. We will be in Minnesota next week for 9 days. We would like to propose solar power to the president and owner of the company. We need a partner. We are also government contractors, and may need experienced installers to install and guarentee the systems.

Think the pricing for ground-mounted arrays requires development. 8-12 modules in a ground mounted array is equivalent if not less than a roof mounted array. The pricing of an array increases with more than 1 branch circuit for micro-inverters or 1 photovoltaic source circuit for macro or traditional inverters. Think more people would consider ground mounted arrays based on cost as a option where especially where the roof would not be a viable option.

Great Site! I live in SW Fla (Lee County) and am interested in starting a business that sells and installs solar units. Are there local classes I can attend to learn more about solar and do you have any recommendations on what products a new company should offer potential customers? Thanks Dan

Comment on May 24th, 2009.

All the policies noted for our state are noteworthy, but they failed this year in passing the most important of all legislation, the Feed-In Tariff. The FIT is the single item that propelled Germany to lead the world in solar and wind, with currently over 20% of their total consumable electricity from renewables; and they have set a goal for 50% by 2015. Please Google the phrase, and learn about this very important and necessary legislation. It will put solar into millions of properties and allow the financial support necessary to overcome the only remaining barrier, the initial costs.
